Finally, I'm ready to start my "Best Of 2012" posts. 2012 was a most amazing year for Lisa O'Dwyer Photography in many ways. I decided to switch over to using mainly film (still use digital too!)and this started in my personal work. I'll blog my personal work faves of 2012 next, so check back! The first wedding that I used film in was Nicola and Conor's Brooklodge wedding in March. I think I only used 2 rolls of film on my Mamiya 645! But the bug had bitten me, and I used more rolls at upcoming weddings.
By May, I was ready to use 100% film at sessions like engagements and anniverary shoots (Jen and Mark's 6 month Anniverary shoot was the 1st!).
I've worked my way up to using 80% film at weddings now and I love it! My style of photography has completely changed with the use of film and I have become a better photographer because it has slowed me down. Film makes you so much more aware of the moment. Every frame counts. It has really changed my life and I feel I am offer to able people art...the art of life.
2012 was important for me professionally because I had two
Style Me Pretty features, a
100 Layer Cake feature, a Stellar magazine wedding issue feature, some Confetti and Wedding Journal features, and many other features on
One Fab Day,
Love My Dress,
Glamour and Grace,
Smitten, and so many more! I'm so happy that the happy joyous couples I've photographed can serve as inspiration to couples planning their own wedding days!
I also got to second shoot a wedding in Breckenridge Colorado with a fantastic film photographer and friend,
Sara Hasstedt. I only used my film cameras, and I am so thankful to Sara for having me along! I've provided some sneak peeks and more to follow in a future blog post.
This magnificent year wouldn't have been possible without the clients and people who had faith my vision and art (including fantastic wedding planners like
White Sage Events,
Xena Productions, and
Aislinn Events), and those clients who have commissioned me. I couldn't afford to shoot fine-art style film photography without you, and I am truly grateful! I really strive to provide a unique collection of fine-art film photography for clients, and I really appreciate that there are people who believe in me and are willing to pay a little extra for custom portraiture.
Here's to a fantastic 2013 for everyone! May it bring us peace and joy, and lots of sunny weather!!!

DeleteLove all the fantastic work you did in 2012! It's great to see all those little moments captured. There are some lovely photos there where you have captured that spilt second; a private moment whether it be a look or touch. That is what it is all about. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alison! That is the part of people photography that I love....trying to capture that essence of who they are as a unique individual or capturing that unique moment in time. I appreciate your interest in my work!
