Natalie and Ray, Warming Wicklow Wedding with Family and Friends at the Woodenbridge

I met Natalie and Ray in March last year when I photographed Natalie's twin sister's Ilana's wedding at Tulfarris House in Wicklow. Nearly a year later, I was back with this wonderful family at The Woodenbridge Hotel in Wicklow for Natalie's wedding.

The Woodenbridge is Ireland's oldest hotel which was founded in 1608. It made a lovely location for a warming wintery wedding with family and friends from all around the world. Although the rainy cold weather was disappointing and dark, Natalie and Ray were glowing with happiness! Natalie was like a a fairytale princess and wore a gorgeous veil designed by her friend Amy Hamilton. Ray looked dashingly handsome and was so happy to be married to the love of his life.

A big thank you to Natalie and Ray for having me there in Wicklow to photograph your wedding! And I wish you all the best in the future!

    1. Thanks so much Gareth! This wedding day was on the day of the floods so the weather and light wasn't the best. But I did shoot color and B&W film on all of the outdoor shots, and B&W film inside. Most of the colour ones inside are digital.

    2. Also, the ones of Natalie and her parents at the wondow light are colour film too. I think it lends a beautiful atmosphere to the photograph.

  2. The direction of these pictures are too grainy and some of them are blurry. Also in some pictures the composition it is lacking direction (legs cut off, eye contact, noisy "tree trunk and building on the side of the picture" location background etc.). Would recommend using film sparingly.

    1. The graininess of film shots comes from a black and white film that is chosen because it is artistically grainy. It is supposed to look like that and digital photographers often use a filter to simulate this same effect that high-speed film produces. There is the possibility of blurriness with movement in photography or lack of light. Often this adds to a sense of movement and romance. At least that is what I intend when I present blurry photographs. I always provide a mix of composition when I photograph. I do the traditional, safe poses first. When I'm sure I got those, then I can be a bit more artistic and take chances. I do appreciate your comments and advice and am always looking for ways to become a better photographer. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

  5. These are so so lovely - wow. I'm blown away. Film captures the mood so incredibly - the one of the brides back with the veil draped across it - swooon.

  8. The b&w shots are so great and timeless but my favorite shots are the bridal party in the woods, the tone and colors in those images is gorgeous!

  10. Dreamy film, dreamy black and whites. Makes me want to get some black and white film now Lisa! That first one of the bride is a timeless beauty of a shot. Keep working in film. It's your passion and you're very inspiring!

  11. I love these pictures! So often in wedding photography I see truth and integrity sacrificed at the alter of "picture perfectedness" - but here you have captured all the beauty of the day and yet throughout there is such depth and intent in these beautiful images. There are far too many cookie cutter weddings out there which all blend into a pile of bland prettiness. But not yours. This stands out. Much more of this please.
